Letter from Bahrain to All-Blogs

Re: Zam and his desire to classify. A Malaysian blogger in Bahrain sent me this mail yesterday. I gave him All-Blogs' assurance. The Alliance is here to promote blogging and protect bloggers, NOT divide them. Zam can try till the cows come home to him.

Dear Rocky,
I'm writing to you concerning the suggestion by our Information Minister to classify bloggers as professional and non-professional. I sincerely hope that as the President of the All Blogs, you will strongly oppose to the suggestion as we don't want two divisions in the movement. I'm not a journalist but I love to read and write. I may not be gifted in the art of writing like some of you. I'm sure there are so many others like that. But I too believe in writing fearlessly. Therefore, I humbly ask you not to divide us..

Right Rocky. Ingmar Bergman once said, "We walk in circles, so limited by our own anxieties that we can no longer distinguish between true and false, between the gangster's whim and the purest ideal." We all know the gangster's whim.

We must shoulder on as the saddest aspect of our Malaysian life right now is that the gangsters gather power faster than society gathers wisdom.

    Dear Rocky,

If Zam still insist to classify us, please (10000x) put my blog under the following header:

    1)woman
    2)jobless
    3)liar.

    Thanks.

    And a 'weekday commentator'.

  6. Then we should start devising a classification for these duds too.

  7. I want to be classified as a, er, daily nibbler? Can't think of any other categories for meself..heh!

Failing this, I guess what they could categories further is what I nibble upon..er, such as..thoughts, news, concepts, tempoyak, kuaci, n...won't go on lest this become a SX18 site!

Dun think Vhishnu has anything to worry. If they can't force bloggers to register, they can't categories them. This is Internet we are talking about, not cetak surat khabar la.

    Gang!

May i suggest we spend the least time possible debating Datuk Zam, Datuk Azman Ujang's MPI's Tokoh Wartawan Negara! If bloggers react to his statements, the n you are all falling into his trap. You see, Zam also craves for attention and publicity. RTM gives him priority. Wong Chun Wai of the Star gives him a lot of space. The other newspapers do the same. And Zam knows that if he wants to get any mention in blogosphere, then he has to comment about bloggers, even if his comments lack depth, let alone intellectual finesse! If bloggers do not respond to Zam's rubbish, then he'll stop. Do not underestimate Zam's ability to attract publicity. He's been in charge of publicity for years! I fear that bloggers are giving him far too much respect and dignity. The man doesn't deserve all this attention!

Kawan is right. Garbage thrown is rubbish forgotten. Time should be spend to discuss future directions for bloggers.
