Hush ...!

LET's forget about RACE. Forget BANGSA Malaysia. Let's go back to being Malaysian citizens.

Let's live and die by the Malaysian Constitution. Your rights, my rights ... they are all right there, spelt out in the Constitution, guaranteed by our forefathers and foremothers. Buy a copy of the Constitution, it costs only ten bucks. Read it, memorize it.

And read the warning, too ....

Police Warning Against Racially Sensitive Statements

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 10 (Bernama) -- The police today warned of stern action against people who make racially sensitive statements which can cause tension and undermine public order.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar said many quarters had made racially sensitive statements of late which had been exploited by certain irresponsible people over Internet blogs and the Short Messaging Service (SMS).

"I am issuing a stern warning to all quarters to refrain from making statements on sensitive issues via the various media.

"The police will not hesitate to act against anyone who violates the law," he told reporters here.

Ismail said many quarters took advantage of the situation to disseminate false information.

"We ask the people who happen to hear rumours to contact the police to verify the truth," he said.

Asked about the disparaging remark made by Bukit Bendera Umno Division head Datuk Ahmad Ismail, Ismail said the police investigation into the matter would be completed soon.

"It is not important how many reports have been lodged against him (Ahmad); of more importance is to stop making statements and doing unlawful things," he said.

Ismail said "street politics" and illegal gatherings were prohibited altogether.

"Malaysia is a sovereign nation and everyone must respect the constitution. Every action must be in accordance with the laws of the country. We do not want arbitrary action which defies the law and gives in to emotions. We do not want any incident that may become uncontrollable," he said.

Ismail, nevertheless, gave the assurance that the situation in the country was under control and safe and that the police were prepared for any eventuality.

The Ahmad Ismail phenomena - a 119 call for MALAYSIA
It sure is disturbing. Ahmad Ismail is a friend (rakan seperjuangan) during our younger days. We were very active in our own ways when I was in Kota Melaka and he was and still is and now no more in Bukit Bendera.

I was puzzled by his outburst and strong headedness (kepala batu) on a very sensitive issue like the Malays and the Chinese and the history of Independent Malaya. Why oh why Saudara at this time? We all have to be responsible for our actions and words. Why want to irritate the Chinese community with such remarks? Why want to ask a member of the Barisan component party to leave the pact? Why so bold and arrogant? Why so ignorant for the fact that the Penang Malays are standing on quicksand? Very very questionable? If its for your personal benefit, then good luck Saudara ku. As a friend, I do not personally think that what you have done is for the good of the Malays.

The real Malays who are Tuans of Malaysia looks after everybody and anybody including the illegal immigrants that comes from all over. That's what our forefathers had decided and agreed upon to make us worthy of rightful owners of the land.

For getting UMNO into trouble, a three year ban is a small price to pay. "Kerana mulut badan binasa". These few words are for an individual. But the damage done to UMNO is not going to be easily mended. Sad to say this, you are still my friend like my many other friends who had betrayed UMNO, but you are no longer my "rakan seperjuangan".

    Anak Malaysia.

So Rocky suddenly its "hush" is it? After your last two posts with racial undertones you're pulling an old UMNO trick by saying "let's move on and not talk about it any more."

Shame on you Rocky. Shame on you for saying that Malaysians are trying to "take advantage" of UMNO by asking for action to be taken against a racist.

You have shown your true colours and I am thankful for this episode since its flushed you and your biases out in the open.

  5. Unfortunately, Dr.M has today written a sour-grapes nasty, menacing piece.

He claims that in particular, the Malays are incensed by the Bar Councils' actions may even be contemplating armed resurrection in collusion with 'neighbouring countries' - meaning Indonesia or S.Thailand.

With demagogues such as these, how do we keep the peace and maintain a Bangsa Malaysia?

Rocky, I agree with you. What BANGSA Malaysia are we talking about?! We are Malaysians made up of BANGSAs or RACES -- Malays, Chinese, Indians, Ibans, Kadazans, Melanaus, Bidayuhs, Jakuns, Siams, etc.

    And we are RAKYAT Malaysia!!

But the word "Rakyat" has also been hijacked by a political party and is already politicized!

I suggest we go for Malaysian PEOPLE! Orang Malaysia!

Semantics or Rhetorics. Who cares? Let us be proud of our respective bangsa and be ONE PEOPLE.

    Power to the Malaysian PEOPLE!

    Thank u.

    1. SAYA RAKYAT MALAYSIA

    2. SAYA BANGSA MELAYU/CINA/INDIA/ETC

YOU SHOULD BE PROUD TO BE A MALAYSIAN AND IDENTIFIED AS ONE.

YOU SHOULD ALSO BE PROUD OF YOUR RESPECTIVE RACE. WHY SHOULD ONE FEEL OTHERWISE. THIS IS YOUR LINEAGE AND HERITAGE. YOU SHOULD BE PROUD TO BE A MALAY/CHINESE/INDIAN/ETC.

    MALAYSIA'S HISTORY/SUCCESS IS BUILT ON MULTI-RACES.
SO WHAT IF ONE IS A CHINESE/INDIAN/ETC -YOU ARE FIRSTLY ALWAYS A MALAYSIAN.

WHY DO WE CONTINUE TO ALLOW NARROW MINDED PEOPLE TO CONJURE IMAGES OF RACISM.

There is no such things as Bangsa Malaysia as claimed and promoted by these group of idiots led by half-baked-lawyer Harris Ibrahim, thinks-he-is-God's-gift-to-the-legal-profession Malik Imtiaz, senile-ole-fart Zorro, Tony know-nuts Yew, and others.

Bangsa Malaysia means Malaysian. And these idiots think that Bangsa Malaysia are Malaysian without race.

Thats unrealistic. They are living in a state of denial and false altruism. Face fact. Every where in the world there different races, creed, and religion. Celebrate this differences.

In Malaysia, the fucking British brought so many immigrant - races outside the Malay cultural region -that it almost made the local inhabitant minority in numbers and actually made them minority economically, educationally, nutritionally, and etc etc etc.

When the Brits left the country, the forced upon us to deal with the problems. Each race were cocoooned in their own areas. Each race differ with one another in terms of cultural, economy, social, education, and etc. They have different set of problems.

Whether you like it or not, to create a one Bangsa Malaysia or Rakyat Malaysia is not in the manner done by those bunch of idiot bloggers. All I see they do on the blogs are only slogans, blog posters, rhetorics, antogonising others with criticism, having patronising attitudes on others of differing views, talking in cliches, etc.

    Lets face another fact.

There will never be unity or a one Bangsa Malaysia until all races could interact with each other with comfort. Equal opportunity must come on a level playing field of equal access, and capacity.

How do we become one Bangsa Malaysia when early in our life we speak and learn in school using different langages, different educational system, different class system of education, etc?

The irony is these people are talking of diversity, Under the guise of libertarianism, the manner they speak of Bangsa Malaysia is like they are championing segregation?

    Utter bullshit!!!!

THIS SONG'S DEDICATED TO YOU...AHMAD dear!!

(Lyrics written by Jay Livingston and Ray Evans
    for Alfred Hitchcock’s 1956 re-make of his 1934 film
“The Man Who Knew Too Much” starring Doris Day and James Stewart.)

When I was just a little girl,
I asked my mother, “What will I be?
    Will I be pretty?
    Will I be rich?”
Here’s what she said to me:

    “Que sera, sera,
    Whatever will be, will be;
The future’s not ours to see.
    Que sera, sera,
    What will be, will be.”

When I was just a child in school,
I asked my teacher, “What will I try?
    Should I paint pictures”
    Should I sing songs?”
    This was her wise reply:

    “Que sera, sera,
    Whatever will be, will be;
The future’s not ours to see.
    Que sera, sera,
    What will be, will be.”

When I grew up and fell in love.
I asked my sweetheart, “What lies ahead?
    Will we have rainbows
    Day after day?”
    Here’s what my sweetheart said:

    “Que sera, sera,
    Whatever will be, will be;
The future’s not ours to see.
    Que sera, sera,
    What will be, will be.”

Now I have Children of my own.
They ask their mother, “What will I be?”
    Will I be handsome?
    Will I be rich?”
    I tell them tenderly:

    “Que sera, sera,
    Whatever will be, will be;
The future’s not ours to see.
    Que sera, sera,
    What will be, will be.

HIDUP MELAYU!

I guess one thing still stands... Distrust.

For your information, Rocky, for bringing in the term "It's your right and It's my right" in terms of Rakyat will bring the infighting among citizens to a whole new level. Why? Because your right and my right are different in the first place although we are of from the same land. Born and bleed in a land called Malaysia.

    Lets put it this way:

Malays should just stay away from the chinese,Indians, Caucasians, Ibans and etc etc. Don't trust the non-malays as they are the "un-cleans" as they eat pig, they don't conform to our ways of life, and they have an intention to steal from us (how IRONIC).
Increase the powers of the Malays with the NEP. Don't give a damn about the others, because we should sympathize with ourselves first before others.

All non-malays should also stay away from the malays. Give the malays no rights in their community, don't trust them, treat them like how a person treats a crook. we fought for what is left of our rights and we are labeled extremist, racist.

Lets be like how the americans lived before the nineties, "It's your community and this is my community" syndrome, look down on each other. Hey we are still the RAKYAT of America, nothing wrong here (at least their constitution gave them all equal rights). If anything like the LA riots happened here in Malaysia, better hope that it does not kill us all.

If malaysia is to be burned down to the ground,it's not because of another country's interference but by our own hands.

I guess i'm too naive when i believed that WE as Malaysians could stand tall as one. No such thing as you or me but US. What a stupid thing for me to believe that I should be patriotic and die for my country.

Congratulations to you Rocky, a man that was supposed to champion for fairness and unity, had just started a mass sowing of seeds of distrust here.

What is so bad about being as we were before? We were living in harmony and in prosperity. We were admired by other nations for our ability to keep our multi-racial country harmonious and peaceful. And for 50 years, we have managed to keep it that way. Thanks to our forefathers and their policies that obviously worked.

So what if the Malays have special privileges? Aren’t the other races being given opportunities (unequal they may be) to prosper and to live peacefully? All the races were given FREEDOM – the power and opportunity to shape one’s own life: to house and feed a family, with security and dignity, and to practice one’s faith in peace.

Isn’t that what we all want and what people fight and give their lives for?

Go ahead. Buy a copy of the Constitution.

Chinese may feel irritated of being called 'pendatangs'. But for everyone's attention; all the malays are also 'pendatangs' with respect that they come from acheh, jawa, champa, banjar, minang, bugis and so forth. What this Ahmad fellow been missing in his statement is

"the malays are pendatang too, but we come a bit earlier than the chinese and indian thus claim this beloved country Tanah Melayu.

Provides that we have considered ourself the tuan of this Tanah , dont you think we deserved to have a lil' bit of privilege?"

Umno's 3yrs suspension on the Ahmad fella is NOT enough. He will come back with a vengence (already said).
He might ask his goons to start some fire...

He ought to be kicked out once & for all.

Is this the way of life & education that is taught to our future generations.

We did not ask to be born a Malay, Chinese, Indian or to other races. We were just born...!!!!

We, the rakyat just want to live peacefully in Malaysia. Also to make more money....

    I just wanna know..:-
Why did that Ahmad fella open his filthy mouth to condemn the Chinese?
    And only the Chinese...??
What caused him to THINK & say it in the first place.....??

Can anybody answer me this ?

Its ONAM tomorrow and would like to wish all Malayalees - HAPPY ONAM,to Tun Mahathir as well:)

Here's an excerpt from the ancient text for all of us to reflect upon.

The celebration of Onam resounds and chants the following tune all over Kerala:

“ When Maveli, our King, ruled the land,

    All the people had equality.
    And people were joyful and merry;

They were all free from harm.
There was neither anxiety nor sickness,

Death of the children was never even heard of,

    There were no lies,
There was neither theft nor deceit,

And no one was false in speech either.
    Measures and weights were right;

No one cheated or wronged his neighbour.

When Maveli, our King, ruled the land,
All the people formed one casteless race."

    HAPPY ONAM MALAYSIA

Just accept it la, the Barisan Nasional/UMNO formula has bred people like Ahmad Ismail who cannot accept that most of us are 'warganegara'... still want to think others are 'pendatang'.

If you say "hush" so we can move on and not talk about all this racial supremacy, sure, let's "hush".

But if the underlying problem is still there, how to hush?

Must make sure all Malaysians are respectful to one another REGARDLESS of race or religion.

    This is the only way.

But unfortunately, in Malaysia you got people who say one race is supreme or one religion is supreme.

It's easy to say forget about race and bangsa. The reality is that some people like that Indon pendatang Khir Toyo is all too eager to incite the ill-informed segments of the Malay community to start May 13 all over again. What is Umno going to do to this despicable, botoxed dentist who deliberately lied that the PR govt in Selangor is trying to hush up the Muslim call to prayers from the mosques? Suspend him? I think not. The hushing is to be observed only by the non-Malays. I live just a few yards from the mosque. So do countless other non-Malays in my neighbourhood. In all my 30 years here, I have never heard a single complaint about the call to prayer. In fact, I welcome it as a blessed time of the day. And when my Muslim neighbours stream past my house on their way to the mosque they never fail to greet me. Ordinary Malaysians love one another. It's the politicans who incite fear and hatred. Well, go hush those people, Rocky.

In line with your "hush" request, we must read the following, which I hope will help all Malaysians regardless of race or religion unite and see through the smokescreen.

This is an interview of Tunku Abdul Rahman, our 1st Prime Minister:

The Real Story of May 13

    By Raja Petra

This is Part One of an article I wrote almost nine years ago, which was published in Harakah, the official media organ of the Islamic Party of Malaysia (PAS). History is not something that should remain buried. History is something that should be a lesson to all or us so that we do not repeat the mistakes made by those before us.

In 1968, Umno fanned racial sentiments in a bid to 'unite' the Malays under its banner. Umno realised that the Malays were abandoning it in droves and it needed an issue to reunite the Malays. Further to that, the Prime Minister was being blamed for what Umno perceived as a loss of Malay support and the Young Turks in Umno wanted to also use this issue to pressure the Prime Minister into resigning.

Twenty years later, in 1988, Umno again went into turmoil with the emergence of Team A and Team B, which eventually split into Umno Baru and Semangat 46. Again, just like twenty years before that, the Malays had become disillusioned with the Umno leadership and there was a danger that Umno would suffer the same fate it did in 1969 if the general election was called.

The Umno leadership very cleverly got the Umno Youth and MCA Youth leaders to raise racial issues and bring the country to the brink of another ‘May 13’. This was when that infamous gathering at the TPCA padang in Kampong Baru was held and when Najib Tun Razak, the Umno Youth Leader, raised the keris and threatened to bathe it in Chinese blood.

Of course, this second ‘May 13’ never happened. What did happen instead was that Operasi Lalang was launched and more than 100 opposition leaders and activists were detained under the Internal Security Act. Najib and the MCA Youth Leader, Lee Kim Sai, however, were spared detention, although they were the two main players in the whole episode.

The ploy did not quite succeed though. In the 1990 general election, half the Malays swung to the opposition and Umno lost most of the Malay heartland to Semangat 46 and PAS.

Twenty years on and history is, again, being repeated. It appears like every twenty years Umno takes the country to the brink of a race riot in its effort to 'unite' the Malays and to ensure that it does not lose Malay support. And the 8 March 2008 general election, as well as the recent Permatang Pauh by-election, is proof that Umno has lost Malay support.

“The current situation is a repeat of 1969,” said Umno in its brainstorming session held at the Umno headquarters to conduct a post-mortem of the election results. “Therefore, a 1969 ‘solution’ will also be required.”

This is very dangerous talk indeed. And Umno has been doing nothing but talking dangerously since March 2008, as evident in the recent episode in Penang. Maybe the culprit has since been punished. Yesterday, Umno’s Supreme Council decided to suspend Ahmad Ismail for a period of three years. But the damage has already been done and the suspension can’t turn back the clock. Racial sentiments have already been fanned and Malaysia, again, is being pushed to the brink of a race riot.

Malays, Chinese and Indians need to know how May 13 started. They must be made aware of what May 13 was really all about. They must be made to realise that the current sabre-rattling is nothing but the same ploy that Umno used back in 1968 and 1988 whenever it felt that it was losing Malay support. May 13 was not about race although it is being touted as so. May 13 was about ‘reuniting’ the Malays and about ousting the Prime Minister from office.

To forget history would be to repeat its mistakes. Let us not be taken in by Umno’s shadow-play (wayang kulit). They know they are rapidly losing power and they want to retain power through foul means by raising the spectre of May 13. Malaysians need to be matured and clever enough to reject this ploy. Umno can try, but whether it can succeed will all depend on whether we get suckered into this very dangerous race game.

Let me take you down memory lane and recap what I wrote nine years ago so that we may learn from this dark history and not repeat what went wrong. As follows is what I wrote in Harakah on 24 September 2008.
    *************************************************

A REPORTER’S ACCOUNT OF AN INTERVIEW WITH TUNKU ABDUL RAHMAN ON THE 13 MAY INCIDENT

The following statement is a factual account of the above-mentioned event given to me by the late Tunku Abdul Rahman (first Prime Minister of Malaysia) during an interview at his residence in Penang in 1972. I requested to discuss the above incident and was surprised when the appointment was given within three days.

His Secretary, a Chinese gentleman, allotted me one hour and advised me not to go into too much detail as this would tire the Tunku unnecessarily. In fact, the interview lasted three and a half hours. Because of the very surprising details provided to me, I think it would be best to report in a first-hand manner based on my notes written immediately after the interview.

“It was clear to me as well as the police that in the highly charged political atmosphere after the police were forced to kill a Chinese political party worker on May 4th, 1969, something was bound to happen to threaten law and order because of the resentment towards the Government by the KL Chinese on the eve of the general election. This was confirmed at this man’s funeral on the 9th May when the government faced the most hostile crowd it had ever seen.

Therefore, when the opposition parties applied for a police permit for a procession to celebrate their success in the results of the general election, I was adamant against it because the police were convinced that this would lead to trouble. I informed Tun Razak about this and he seemed to agree.

Now, without my knowledge and actually “behind my back”, there were certain political leaders in high positions who were working to force me to step down as a PM. I don’t want to go into details but if they had come to me and said so I would gladly have retired gracefully.

Unfortunately, they were apparently scheming and trying to decide on the best way to force me to resign. The occasion came when the question of the police permit was to be approved.

Tun Razak and Harun Idris, the MB of the state of Selangor, now felt that permission should be given, knowing fully well that there was a likelihood of trouble. I suppose they felt that when this happened they could then demand my resignation.

To this day I find it very hard to believe that Razak, whom I had known for so many years, would agree to work against me in this way. Actually he was in my house, as I was preparing to return to Kedah, and I overhead him speaking to Harun over the phone saying that he would be willing to approve the permit when I left. I really could not believe what I was hearing and preferred to think it was about some other permit. In any case, as the Deputy Prime Minister, in my absence from KL, he would be the Acting PM and would override my objection.

Accordingly, when I was in my home in Kedah, I heard over the radio that the permit had been approved.

It seems as though the expected trouble was anticipated and planned for by Harun and his UMNO Youth. After the humiliating insults hurled by the non-Malays, especially the Chinese, and after the seeming loss of Malay political power to them, they were clearly ready for some retaliatory action.

After meeting in large numbers at Harun’s official residence in Jalan Raja Muda near Kampong Bahru, and hearing inflammatory speeches by Harun and other leaders, they prepared themselves by tying ribbon strips on their foreheads and set out to kill Chinese. The first hapless victims were two of them in a van opposite Harun’s house who were innocently watching the large gathering. Little did they know that they would be killed on the spot.

The rest is history. I am sorry but I must end this discussion now because it really pains me as the Father of Merdeka to have to relive those terrible moments. I have often wondered why God made me live long enough to have witnessed my beloved Malays and Chinese citizens killing each other.”

This was a conspiracy at the highest level and nothing short of a power struggle, with the ‘Young Turks’ then forming the pressure group. To achieve their ends, they very cleverly used race to make the Malays rise and push the Tengku aside.

Today, they are doing it again. This is dangerous politics. It may backfire and, instead, it may make the Malays rise against the non-Malays, like what happened in 1969 -- a fire raging out of control with no fire extinguisher in sight.

We must never allow our country to be turned into a racial battlefield again. Let politics be issues concerning policies, civil rights, good governance and justice. Let us not allow anyone to bring race and religion into our politics lest we suffer the fate of many countries around us where mass murders of entire families are made in the name of ‘bangsa’ and ‘agama’.

  80. The Bernama report "The police today warned of stern action against people who make racially sensitive statements which can cause tension and undermine public order."

That is such a general statement. And generally any Malaysian reading it tends to look at DAP and maybe Keadilan to see who that is being addressed.

Fact is since 8 March the racist statements that are being made have mostly come from UMNO members.

Gerakan and MCA, still licking their wounds of 8 March and with their leaders having to show that they are real leaders to their own members have been the ones responding to these provocative statements made by UMNO members.

But when have ever the police taken in an UMNO member or a BN component party member for such racist incitements?

So of what value is this warning issued now?

And of course this sems to follow Badawi's prognosis that the state of race relations is unhealthy.

Following that assumption I suppose certain actions are warranted.

But surely it won't be anything like taking in an UMNO member!! What about Ahmad Ismail? Now if what Ahmad Ismail said was offensive, then they got to also take in Hishamuddin for his Keris waving antics which cost the BN far more than Ahmad Ismail.

What about the Biro Tatanegara? They do worse things that what Ahmad Ismail is supposed to have said. But no action is going to be directed that way is it?

Sadly Ahmad Ismail is being made a scape goat. But then again looking at how Mahathir Mohammad is responding to this whole episode, it could be that Ahmad Ismail does not mind being the scape goat as the ultras can now surface.

This whole thing sounds more like a sandiwara put together to create teh conditions necessary to take more drastic actions maybe to secure for BN their continued rule of the country.

But then again by saing that I am giving the UMNO strategists too much credit. After all, if their capability and calibre is to be measured by all of their actions and stratgies adopted since the last parliament was dissolved until the packing off of 51 MPs to Taiwan, one has to wonder why on earth the people of Malaysai would want these jouveniles to lead the country. I reckon they may not even possess the little brain needed to operate a kindergarten, let alone a country.

KENAPA?? KERANA HAK KEISTIMEWAAN ORANG MELAYU DAN ISLAM ADALAH BALASAN HAK KERAKYATAN DIBERI KEPADA ORANG BUKAN MELAYU. MAKA KITA HARUSLAH MENGHORMATI HAK MASING-MASING.

JADI JANGAN LAH SESIAPA PUN BERANI MEMPERTIKAIKAN HAK MASING-MASING.

If we dont like the government just vote againt them in next election, dont stir up problem that can cause chaos.
I dont hate my chinese and indian neighbour,in fact we are very good to each other plus other children go to school together.

Sometimes if you all POLITICIAN ask too much, question too much, complaining too much, arguing too much, thats what actually divide US.

I think and this is i think the most appropicate way for us,all malaysian,to be together is to abolish all other school except the NATIONAL SCHOOL so that our children can life and learn together. Is that what all of us want, isnt it!! Stop training to fight for your right to practice MANDARIN or TAMIL because you can also learned it in the NATIONAL SCHOOL.Make it a MUST to have the SUBJECT in MANDARIN and TAMIL.Then all of our children can speaks 4 languages.

Why forget Bangsa Malaysia? Bangsa Malaysia is what we should see ourselves - as one. Start back the Muhibah spirit and help each other.
Think of us all as going to the Olympic, competing with the world.

Do we still try to bring down our team? Do we send the second best to compete just because the best is of a different race or religion? No, isn't it? We should send the best irrespective of race or religion because when we win we win as Malaysian.

Same with us all working for the betterment of Malaysia. When we work together, the economy will improve and we all win because of the multipler effect.

  85. Hi Chee Keng Wee,

Firstly I am Malaysian of Chinese descendant. Of course, we all know that Ahmad fella had made remarks and actions that anger not only Malaysians of Chinese descendant but all right-minded Malaysians.

He and his group have got their personal agenda capitalising on the charged emotions they created. They wanted commotions to get attention and had been very successful so far. They just fall short of turning Malaysia into chaos thanks to all right-minded Malaysian who don't fall into their traps.

Just think if Malaysia is chaotic with racial disharmony would it contribute positively to Malaysia our beloved country and our personal economy and put bread on everyone's table? No!

Would it be better that now actions had been taken against him by our government and their leaders, we just let begone be begone. Why dwell on the non-productive issues. There are more important things for all of us Malaysians to attend to such as getting our country back steadily on her feet to face the global challenges. Don't let these issues dragged on, draining our energy and distracting us from the big picture.

That's all rocky's bru is urging all of us to do. Nothing else. Don't read too much between the lines.

Let's us join our hands and hearts to make Malaysia a better place for ourselves and our future generations.

    Thank you

And let the Federal Constitution be made a compulsory topic in the Civic classes in school, from Standard 1 to Form 6. And let it be studied in the tertiary level too!

Let the citizen be acquainted with the Federal Constitution. An informed citizenry will be the safest check upon the civil government.

There is no such thing as Bangsa Malaysia!!
Its all an eye wash a political strategy.
On one hand "Bangsa Malaysia" and on the other seperate Chinese schools, Tamil schools..
In reality as Farish Noor said, Malaysia is an Abstract concept, no such thing as Malaysian race can ever exist.

    All can be Malaysian citizens.
If it has to be one race, everyone should have something COMMON, language, culture, religion (atleast language & culture defines race) - which does not occur so, because here we have people who insist on being what they are (and why shouldn't one maintain that way - else the person shall loose all his ancestry)

  89. With people like Ahmad and Khir Toyo resorting to racial politics, the statements by the head of the arm forces and also the police are timely.
Yes, indeed, we are all citizens of Malaysia...Multiracial Malaysia. The rights of all the citizens irregardless of races are enshrined in our Constitution.Lies and fitnah during "bulan yang mulia" are especially unacceptable!

  90. Dear Rocky,

I had no problems with the word rakyat but I had problems with the word "Hush ...!"

Why hush when a certain segment of the rakyat said something offensive to another segment of the rakyat? Are we not after all ALL rakyat Malaysia?

Is it racially sensitive if I challenge whether this guy got a punishment that commensurate with his transgression?

I'm not challenging an entire race. Nor am I challenging you. All I'm asking is why hush?

If we can't talk about it in a rational manner and revisit what was intended by our founding fathers with the federal constitution, how else are we going to leave this quagmire behind?

    May I remind you that Raja Nazrin Shah said this;

"Discussing issues openly can only be good for society. It is even better if discussions take place in a rational, informed and constructive manner. This way people will be able to contribute to discussions on matters that affect them .... Sweeping things under the carpet cannot be the answer. It will only postpone the day when we have to deal with them, when the situation may be worse."

Ps. I've made it a point to read your blog daily and you've been consistent throughout but your last 2 posts indicated a shift in your outlook.

If I'm mistaken then please accept my apologies for being sarcastic with my earlier comment and it would help if you could explain further.

    Rocky,

you're sounding more like Barking Magpies. In fact post GE-08 your writings seem to mirror CheDet. No, I have no problem with that. It's your blog. Just a little observation.

I frequent Jakarta and even have an office there... If Rakyat Malaysia want to be recognised by Bangsa Malaysia... then we should follow Bangsa indonesia...

There is no such thing as Chinese school in Indonesia? but our chinese friends still fight to protect the school here in Malaysia...

There is no Lim Ah Hong in Indonesia but he is known as Jemmy Santonius...

i known a chinese indonesian but he can't really understand mandarin or hokkien... all he knows is Bahasa Indonesia...

So... are we prepared to do that for the sake of Bangsa Malaysia??/ If we still think that the chinese goes to chinese school... the indians goes to indian school... we can forget about Bangsa Malaysia....

p/s: I was at a pasar with my mother... she compliments a chinese towkey for his fluent bahasa melayu... but i think she shouldn't compliment the towkey... after being a "warganegara" for so long he must be fluent.... i can see there's a lot of chinese who can't even speak a proper bahasa melayu......

Rocky, I am a bit puzzled to why the laungan 'HIDUP MELAYU' doesn't seem racist whereas it would not be the case if others say 'HIDUP INDIA' or 'HIDUP CINA' in our beloved country Malaysia.

You, sir, had said it a lot better and more accurately than I could ever have expressed it!

(it's always like this with me when it comes to political matters ... can be eloquent with `other things' though)

Excellent comment, teh - I'd love to sign my name to what you had written.

    Sdr Rocky,

How can we no be so divided after reading 100's of these comments? How can we ever be called Malaysian when each still fighting for their distinctive race?

By the way, I guess those who wants to debate further on history of who come first and who come last, please seek information in the British Council Library. Our Malaysian histoy have all be destroy and erase so that other races do not know how their decentant came to Malaya. Malaysia only existed in 16th September 1963. Malaya gets her Independent from the British in 31st August 1957. Please remember the Federal Constitution guarantees for all Malaysian and not to a so call single race of supermacy modified by the UMNO (Undemocratic Malay Nazi Organisation).

If we can call ourselves a Malaysian, we must unit regardness of race to develop this nation which has already been destroy by politic master.

We need a change to rebuilt this nation. There is alot to do to rebuilt this damaged nation.

    bro,

it's been 51 years now. today, we are still talking about the same unsettled problem, bangsa, race, rakyat bla, bla bla.

the moral of the story is, "kalau jumpa ular dan umno, pijak umno dulu kasi lumat" menyusahkan rakyat je.

  101. jggo,
I knew somebody would like to use the Indonesian context and ask other diverse ethnic groups to be formed to a majority, aka the Malay. I am totally ok with that with one learning from the context of Indonesia - that all Indonesian citizens are equal. You can harp about them not having chinese schools, Indian names or Kadazan language .. but all are accepted equally there. So, please dun preach to us that "you should be grateful" cause in both countries, it is just different kind of discrimination. At least the Indonesian can claim equal nationality.

If your criteria of model citizenship is to speak fluent BM, then you are missing the big picture. Many can speak a diverse set of language that helps us in our life, work around Asia n beyond. Diversity should be celebrated and your view is remisniscent of our education system propoganda.
